Within BASF Seed and Traits R&D, Trait Testing refers to the production of high-quality plants, seeds and data to allow selection of the best performing events in controlled environment. The team grows and evaluates plants for crops such as wheat, soybean, oilseed rape and cotton, and produces and ships seeds for further evaluation in the field, as well as for seedstock management. Trait Testing is embedded in the Trait Research department that focuses on design, creation and testing of genetic engineering, genome editing and mutagenesis-based traits.

We are seeking a Senior Shipment and Seed Logistics Coordinator with a digital mindset to join the Trait Testing group at our R&D Innovation Center in Ghent, Belgium. This role will focus on the shipments of biological material and coordination of seed logistic activities.

Responsibilities

  • As a Senior Shipment and Seed Logistics Coordinator, you are responsible for legal, regulatory and customs compliance of shipment documents for Trait Research biological materials for both greenhouse and lab.
  • You will independently plan and coordinate Trait Research shipments, and you will functionally lead a team of shippers located in Zwijnaarde and Astene to ensure timely delivery of goods and services.
  • You will ensure that all necessary internal approvals are in place prior to shipping and you will organize and/or support pre-shipment authority inspections and quarantine (if needed).
  • You are responsible for Trait Testing seed logistic activities and you will independently coordinate activities such as seed archival, seeds stock review and program termination activities.
  • You will ensure data integrity, and you will interpret, analyze and report with appropriate level of detail the essential characteristics and naming conventions for plant material passport information in line with the internal and external standards.
  • You will communicate and collaborate with stakeholders (Crop coordinators, PLs, shippers, Biosafety, Stewardship,…) all over the world and you will work closely with our BMMC (Biological Material Movement Coordination) team at the Innovation Center.
  • You will drive innovation through digitalization, and you will (co-)develop digital solutions for Trait Research processes with regards to shipment and seed stock management.
  • You will identify, propose and implement shipment workflow improvements.
  • You are a recognized role model in understanding and complying with company standards (QMS, Health, Safety, Biosafety, Stewardship, …).
  • You will act as a role model with respect to the BASF CORE values (Creative – Open- Responsible – Entrepreneurial) and culture.

Qualifications

  • You have a master’s degree in Life Sciences or equivalent through experience.
  • Having experience with movement of biological material, including securing phytosanitary certificates, certificates of origin and permits is a must.
  • You have experience in applying practical problem-solving skills (to resolve shipping and stewardship non-conformances).
  • You have experience in planning, coordination and (functional) leadership.
  • You are precise and detail oriented and you have good communication skills.
  • You are digital savvy and possess advanced computer skills. You have a strong passion for leveraging digital tools and data to drive innovation in R&D.
  • You have a heart for operational excellence and continuous improvement.
  • You excel at engaging internal and external stakeholders, effectively managing communication and change within a complex, matrix organization.
  • You are fluent in both English and Dutch.
