To strengthen our team in Zwijnaarde, we are looking for a Scientist Protein Production and Characterization who is passionate about protein expression, purification, and analytical characterization. You will help deliver high-quality data and materials essential for the registration and approval of innovative agricultural products worldwide.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support in developing and implementing protein production strategies in collaboration with the internal team and cross-functional partners. This includes active involvement in laboratory activities associated with protein research and development.
  • Participate as a member of the GLP facility, serving as study personnel or study director upon completion of relevant training. Responsibilities include drafting and reviewing protocols and reports, coordinating and executing regulatory studies, analysing data, and defining subsequent steps to achieve global project objectives.
  • Remain current with scientific literature, emerging research, and technological advancements, leveraging this knowledge to enhance functional capabilities within the area.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of experimental design, results, and conclusions; regularly communicate and present findings and challenges during internal multidisciplinary project meetings.
  • Engage frequently with colleagues across global units and collaborate with external partners.
  • Address technical issues collaboratively with both internal and external stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • PhD or MSc in Biochemistry, Plant Biology, or a related discipline, with a minimum of 5 years of experience in either academic (e.g., postdoctoral) or industry settings.
  • Knowledge of protein biochemistry, including protein production, analysis, and development. Experience with insecticidal, nematocidal, or herbicidal proteins is considered an asset.
  • Practical experience with laboratory protein analysis methods such as expression, purification, quantitation, immunological detection, and functional activity assays. Experience with ELISA- or functional protein activity assay development and validation is advantageous.
  • Attention to detail in experimental design and execution; ability to address technical issues using appropriate methodologies.
  • Collaborates with local and global teams to share technical knowledge and participates in cross-functional teams to solve challenges within the area of responsibility.
  • Able to work independently on assigned projects with minimal supervision.
  • Communicates effectively both verbally and in writing using available communication platforms.
