We are seeking an ambitious professional to join our Agricultural Solutions team as a Seeds R&D Digital Product Owner (PO). In this role, you operate within an international team to enable BASF scientists and breeders to make quicker and more accurate data-driven decisions. The digital PO will provide cross-functional and integrated informatics solutions to accelerate product development and strengthen BASF’s competitive advantage in the seeds business. Your work will contribute to BASF’s innovative Seeds and Traits to help farmers sustainably feed and clothe the world, the biggest job on earth. Your place of employment will be Gent, Belgium.

Responsibilities

  • You will be the Product Owner for one or multiple R&D digital products used by different business functions.
  • You will be in regular dialogue with the Product Family Manager, who brings in the vision of our overall Seeds Digital Roadmap.
  • You will collaborate in a digital product team with business representatives that gather requirements and perform functional analysis, as well as change management with the user community.
  • You will utilize the combination of your science education and your digital expertise to drive forward innovative solutions for R&D. This could include your involvement in, or leadership of cross-functional products, for instance with solution design.
  • You will define the product vision together with the product manager and product team and ensure that the product is continually improved according to prioritized business requirements.
  • You will ensure the maintenance and lifecycle management of the product.
  • You will lead an agile development team proceeding from technical analysis and design to implementation, user test, and rollout – either in house or with an external partner.
  • You will manage relationships with any external partners and vendors upon which the product depends.
  • You will be part of the global product owner community, where you contribute to the overall vision of the digital landscape, and address interdependencies between products.

Qualifications

  • ou have a Master’s degree with at least 5 years of relevant experience, or a PhD, in a relevant field of digital life science.
  • You have hands-on experience in agile product management/ownership and the usage of Agile methodologies with DevOps teams for implementation.
  • You understand business needs/demands and define business requirements at a product level.
  • You demonstrate excellent collaboration and communication skills, and the ability to work within global and diverse teams as well as with external partners and vendors where appropriate.
  • Your digital mindset and your passion for improving processes enables you to think out of the box as you design solutions in teamwork.
  • You embody BASF’s Winning Ways behaviors, including owning accountability for your work and results, and prioritizing speed over perfection to deliver impactful solutions efficiently.
  • By continuously developing your skills and knowledge to stay ahead in a dynamic environment, you embrace lifelong learning.
  • Your knowledge and experience in fields relevant for plant biotechnology such as molecular biology, genetics, trait and gene discovery, bioinformatics, breeding, lab processes and data management, and/or field/greenhouse trials is a plus.
  • Your knowledge of software architecture or data modelling is a plus.
