We are seeking a Junior Biometrician to join us at our R&D Innovation Center in Ghent, Belgium.

Responsibilities

  • You contribute to and develop algorithms for the efficient application of genetic markers for the enhancement of global hybrid breeding programs.
  • You mine and extract value from an extensive breeding database to support superior decision making in breeding.
  • You develop tools to enhance our next generation breeding platform.
  • You provide analysis support and expertise to hybrid crops.
  • You will adapt to a dynamic environment with creative application and integration of new methods and data into practice.
  • You interface between business needs (breeding applications) and tool development (IT functions).
  • You independently develop research activities in line with head of Biometrics and department strategy.

Qualifications

  • A Ph.D. degree in statistics or quantitative genetics, or a master’s degree with broad applied experience in statistical support of breeding programs.
  • Expertise in statistical software (R and packages such as BGLR).
  • Solid knowledge on application of genomic selection in breeding.
  • Strong mixed modelling skills and experience with ASReml-R.
  • Experience in machine learning is a plus.
  • Good reporting and communication skills and fluent in English.
  • Comfortable in working in a multicultural environment and a team player with strong interpersonal communication skills.
