We are seeking a Junior Biometrician to join us at our R&D Innovation Center in Ghent, Belgium.

Responsibilities

You contribute to and develop algorithms for the efficient application of genetic markers for the enhancement of global hybrid breeding programs.
You mine and extract value from an extensive breeding database to support superior decision making in breeding.
You develop tools to enhance our next generation breeding platform.
You provide analysis support and expertise to hybrid crops.
You will adapt to a dynamic environment with creative application and integration of new methods and data into practice.
You interface between business needs (breeding applications) and tool development (IT functions).
You independently develop research activities in line with head of Biometrics and department strategy.

Qualifications

A Ph.D. degree in statistics or quantitative genetics, or a master’s degree with broad applied experience in statistical support of breeding programs.
Expertise in statistical software (R and packages such as BGLR).
Solid knowledge on application of genomic selection in breeding.
Strong mixed modelling skills and experience with ASReml-R.
Experience in machine learning is a plus.
Good reporting and communication skills and fluent in English.
Comfortable in working in a multicultural environment and a team player with strong interpersonal communication skills.
