The Senior EU Regulatory Affairs Manager independently manages the development of regulatory projects, regulatory strategies, submission activities, and registration actions associated with seeds and traits products in the EU. The Senior Regulatory Affairs Manager represents BASF by leading and participating in relevant industry meetings and committees at the EU level with the aim of developing regulatory policies and frameworks within the EU and GB, promoting a science-based globally harmonized approach, and ensuring the early identification of new regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

  • You independently develop and implement strategies (timelines, resources, data requirements, order of operations) to achieve EU registration of seeds and traits products, taking into account the EU regulatory and political environment, global business priorities, and government approvals in other parts of the world.
  • You create regulatory dossier submissions for EU EFSA and other regulatory authorities according to globally harmonized guidelines, drive the development of automated regulatory dossiers in the EU and GB, and coordinate expert responses to questions related to achieving and renewing registrations in line with business plans.
  • You engage with EU regulatory agencies and local industry associations on global and EU priority issues, promoting science-based approaches and global harmonization in regulatory matters.
  • You use your knowledge of EU government regulations and relationships with key EU regulatory authorities to solve problems that may reduce regulatory impacts and costs and propose advocacy and political strategies to facilitate regulatory progress.
  • You ensure 100% field trial compliance and compliance for all regulated crops and organisms’ requirements, responding to potential compliance breaches according to government and internal policies.
  • You provide regulatory support and services to internal technical and business teams, company customers, and sub-registrants.
  • You advise business teams on local, regional, or global regulatory issues impacting company sales and profit.

Qualifications

  • You hold a PhD degree in agriculture field (or related scientific field) with 5 years of experience in a role relevant to the understanding of Seeds dossiers or M.Sc. degree in agriculture field (or related scientific field) with 8 years of experience in a role relevant to the understanding of Seeds dossiers.
  • You are fluent in English. Multilingual is highly preferred.
  • You have expertise in seeds regulatory affairs in the EU and a good understanding of the scientific and political dimensions for seed products in the EU.
  • You have experience successfully obtaining permits and interacting with government agencies and industry organizations.
  • You possess comprehensive technical experience in agriculture, biology, or another life sciences discipline.
  • You have strong organization, planning, and dossier compilation skills as well as strong analytical and writing skills.
  • You possess excellent communication abilities, focusing on concise summarization of technical material, reporting on developments, and negotiating with government personnel by understanding objections and overcoming them.
  • You are able to collaborate across different layers of the organization and government systems, building effective networks and applying these networks to advance business needs.
  • You are flexible, patient, capable of overcoming complexity, and skilled in diplomacy, negotiation, and solution-finding, with persistence to deal effectively with lengthy project review periods, diverse personalities, potentially conflicting government mandates, and cultural differences among team members.
