The lab automation team is responsible for the development and implementation of innovative and state-of-the-art automated (robotic) solutions for lab and lab-related processes, enabling and enhancing our R&D and operational processes, in support of the BASF seed businesses globally.

We are seeking for an experienced and highly skilled robotic engineer to join this innovative team and to play a critical role in the design, development, implementation and optimization of specialized automated platforms and devices. You will work very closely together with your lab automation team members, colleagues in Seed Technologies & Analytics and relevant BASF business stakeholders. You collaborate with external specialized engineering companies to reach your goals.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the translation of business requirements into suitable technical approaches and solutions.
  • Technically responsible for the development, delivery, roll-out and implementation of a successful and suitable product.
  • Responsible for the identification of suitable (external) automation and engineering partners, for outsourcing and joined developments into automation. You provide relevant input for the establishment of collaboration & development agreements with these partners.
  • Interact and collaborate closely with internal stakeholders and vendors during all project (engineering) phases – User Requirement Specification, Concept development, Procurement, Acceptance Testing, commissioning, and implementation.
  • Provide training and technical support to end-users.
  • Work in cross-functional project teams.
  • Ensure compliance to safety and quality standards.
  • Thoroughly document approaches, procedures, and results to ensure traceability and facilitate knowledge sharing.
  • Stay up to date with latest advancements in automation and engineering and apply this knowledge in our projects to drive innovation within the company.

Qualifications

  • A Master’s degree in Automation Engineering (Robotics, Mechatronics, or related field).
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in machine building, incl. conceptualizing, designing, developing, and implementing robotic / automated systems within a production environment.
  • Lifetech industry experience.
  • Experience and skill in design and analysis using one or more CAD programs (E.g. SolidWorks).
  • Knowledgeable in analyzing mechanical and electrical designs and suggest enhancements.
  • Experienced in one or more of following areas:
    Gantry systems, stepper motors & drivers.
    Sensors and applied integration, lab view programming and PLC.
  • Fluent English, with experience in conveying complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Collaborates and easily gets along in team-based environment.
  • Excellent organizational skills, project planning & task management.
  • Entrepreneurial attitude, with the ability to identify innovation opportunities.
